The game
Minigame Mayhem is a 4 player party game that has a bundle of minigames which provided a entertaining and quick experience that can be played in quick sessions for some competitive fun. This project was a university collaborative module that put students into groups of no more than 15 to create a game within a 6 week time frame.
Responsibilities
My Role
Being a senior student on the module, I took a joint leadership role for the technical and design side of the project. I made sure the team was able to understand the design document and how we would lay it out to help aid our development by breaking it down into sections for each minigame. Then I gave each designer including myself a minigame to explore and design a suitable approach. The team understood our goal well and we set out to create the game in the vision we imagined at the start.
Development
During our development stage, there was consistent meetings between the leadership to ensure our team was heading down the right path, then we would have a larger and longer meetings with the rest of the team to get as much input from everyone as we could. Communication was a big part in our success with this game and without it we would have had a lot of struggles further into development.
Opinions and Future Plans
By far this experience was one of the most valuable as everything within the game was created by scratch apart from some sounds used. It let me explore my role as a leader on the team the best I could and made sure we could make the vital decisions on areas to ensure we could finish development in time. Although, there are a few things we would like to adjust if we were able to go back to the project but due to our scope and limit on time we had to make sure we did everything that was a necessity first.
